Sadly, on average 24 people per minute in our society are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States. That adds up to more than 12 million women and men over the course of a year. One in four women and one and seven men over the age of 18 have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner.
The Liv On campaign was originally created to raise money for the local family of Liv Harrison, a domestic abuse victim who was brutally murdered in November 2018. In an effort to help with funeral expenses, a goal was set to sell 50 logoed items (specifically sweatshirts and t-shirts). The butterfly logo with the slogan LIV ON was a way to carry Liv’s spirit with us.
When the final numbers came in, we were shocked and ecstatic to see we met and exceed our goal by 800%, raising almost $4,000! So many people came together to support a heart-wrenching cause. What began as a simple fundraiser for one family blossomed into The Liv On Foundation. Like the butterfly, the ugliness of Liv’s death evolved into something beautiful.
We have collaborated with local Victim Services and are discovering many different ways to supplement exiting programs so our community does not lose another Liv.
